Gated community

A gated community is a residential development with a boundary wall or fence and a single controlled entrance, watched by security, rather than a standalone building that opens straight onto a public street.

( SCROLL ↓ )

Most include shared amenities, a garden, a clubhouse, sometimes a pool, maintained through fees that every resident pays into through the owners' association. In Bengaluru it covers everything from an apartment tower on its own compound to a large villa layout with internal roads of its own, so the term describes how a place is bounded and managed, not its size or style. We note whether a home sits inside a gated layout, since that shapes daily life, not just the amenity list.

Gated community

A rental term, explained for Bengaluru.

A term is defined from the statute or from the practice, with the source named beside it. Where Bengaluru's practice differs from the law, the page says so rather than choosing one.

Send this page to whoever you are moving with; a home is usually chosen by two people at eleven at night. The next step is one message to the desk with the budget, the size and the office.

The glossary knows the word. The desk knows the home.
