What are move-in charges in a society?

Many gated societies in Bengaluru charge a one time move in fee, commonly around ₹2,500, sometimes alongside a separate refundable move in deposit of around ₹5,000 that you get back once move out formalities are done, society management platforms report.

A matching move out charge, often another ₹2,500, is also common when you leave. These are society charges, separate from your rent and deposit to the landlord, and go toward wear on lifts, common areas and security during the move. Ask the society directly for its exact charges before moving day, since each society sets its own.
