When do I get my deposit back?

You get your deposit back once you hand over the flat and the landlord checks it against the condition you moved in with, after deducting anything genuinely owed, like unpaid bills or real damage.

( SCROLL ↓ )

Karnataka has no law today that fixes a number of days for this, so the timeline is only what your agreement says. If your agreement stays silent on timing, you are relying on the landlord's goodwill, which is a weak position to be in. Fix an exact number of days for the return in your agreement before you sign, and do a joint walkthrough on the day you move out.

Every number on this page is dated, and its source is named beside it. The law is what the statute says; the practice is what Bengaluru does, and where the two differ, both are written down.

Send this page to whoever you are moving with; a home is usually chosen by two people at eleven at night. The next step is one message to the desk with the budget, the size and the office.

The record answers the question. The desk confirms the home.
