( RENTING IN MUMBAI, ANSWERED · 14 OCT 2026 · UPDATED 14 OCT 2026 · 1 MIN )

Who is billed for water in Mumbai, the owner or the tenant?

The owner is billed.

( SCROLL ↓ )

The MCGM Water Charges Rules say water demand notices are made out in the owner's name, and it is the owner's duty to collect and pay the dues. Whether the owner passes the bill to you depends on your agreement, so ask before you sign. Unpaid dues can lead to disconnection of the main connection.

What the record says
