The page says citizens can give the information and that a police NOC is not needed. It cites no order and sets no penalty for not reporting. For a foreign national, the Mumbai Police form cites the Foreigners (Report to Police) Order, 1971, which asks the householder to report to the nearest police station. Giving the details is still the safe course.
What the record says
- Mumbai Police Tenant Information page: citizens can provide the information. No order is cited.
- Foreign national: the Mumbai Police form cites the 1971 Order and the old Indian Penal Code for the penalty.
- The model society bye-laws ask the member to give the society a copy of the police intimation report.
- Press reports describe time limited police orders in 2023 and 2025. We found none on the police site, so ask your police station.
