Moving to Bengaluru to join a startup in HSR Layout.

HSR Layout is where many of Bengaluru's startups sit, on coworking floors and in converted houses rather than in business parks.

6 to 10 km out of the cluster's centre as the crow flies: 119 societies with a page here, nearest first Meda Heights, Prestige Silver Crest, Vaswani Astoria, Bearys Cul De Sac, Total Environment - Learning to Fly, Assetz East Point, NAL Quarters and Sunny Verano and 111 more; owners there were asking around ₹58,000 for a 2 BHK and ₹76,500 for a 3 BHK.

Across the societies within 6 km the typical ask was a 1 BHK ₹40,000, a 2 BHK ₹62,500, a 3 BHK ₹90,000 and a 4 BHK ₹1,62,500, the middle of their medians rounded to the nearest ₹500. Deposits asked came to 4.2 months of rent at the median. Both are owners' opening positions, not what was agreed.

The compromise most renters here make is the walk to work against the rent: a 2 BHK in HSR Layout asked around ₹54,000, against ₹42,500 on Sarjapur Road this month, a few kilometres further out; the ride depends on the hour. The desk sends both and lets the brief decide.
